What is one way that I can be like the disciples today?
The story of Jesus calling His disciples has always amazed me. It has also puzzled me. Think about it...
This random guy walks up to your boat and says "Follow Me... I'm the Messiah!" What is 99% of our response? "Ummm... NO!!!"
It's not like Jesus was famous at this time. Maybe the disciples had seen Jesus' baptism. I'm not completely sure what they were thinking, but 1 thing I know... this was completely an act of the Holy Spirit.
These disciples were not robots waiting to their whole lives for Jesus to walk by their boats. These were normal, everyday, working-class guys with lives and jobs and families.
But, when Jesus asked them to follow, they followed immediately. I need to be ready and willing to follow Jesus whenever or wherever He calls me.

ReplyDeleteI think Jesus had spent some time with those disciples on the boat before he passed by and said "Follow Me". I'm going to reference you to something I wrote on the first disciples where I am working on my own Gospel harmony and see what you think.
